"The One Question To Ask Yourself To Get Into Your Readers Mind"

For today’s Breakthrough bite I want to share with you a tactic I created that will allow you to create copy that really resonates with your audience.

It’s a different take on an old style for finding the reason why someone does what they do.

I call it the “What does this mean” tactic.

I created it based off of the 5 why’s technique.

You see, although the 5 why’s still works wonders for finding out the reasons why a person might do something.

But for me personally that method was still lacking a crucial piece of information.

And that information is…

What does this really mean?

Although knowing why someone does something is useful, you still need to know what does this really mean to them personally.

And you can find out what this could mean for them just by asking yourself that question right upfront.

I’ll give you a quick example.

Right now at the time of writing this post, tariffs being placed on mexico and canada by the U.S. is all over the news.

So I’ll use that here.

You can ask yourself why is the U.S. going to put tariffs on those countries.

And your answer might be because there are trade imbalances between mexico, canada and the u.s.

Seems like a reasonable enough answer.

But does it dig deep enough?

In my opinion…it does not.

So with that in mind, if you take that same question and simply ask yourself.

What does having a tariff placed on mexico and canada really mean?

Then you will find that answer to mean something like the u.s. having a weaker dollar, but stronger local businesses.

Products created in the U.S. will be cheaper overseas, but will cost more for consumers within the united states.

Or it could mean job creation for people in the u.s. due to fewer imports coming into the states from overseas companies.

Do you see how these answers go just a bit deeper and is more easily translated to your reader than just simply asking yourself why are they having tariffs placed on them?

If you were writing an ad for a financial related product then you can see how knowing what tariffs being placed on mexico and canada will really mean to your reader and use that knowledge in your writing.

For example.

A weaker dollar means less purchasing power for people in the u.s.

You can use that in your writing.

You might write a headline like:

“You’re Wealth Is Being Stolen By The People You Trust: How You Can Stop One Of The Biggest Thefts In U.S. History”

Or..

You could use the fact that there will be a possibility for more job creation locally due to less imports coming in from overseas.

You might write a headline like so:

“Finally! A legal and Ethical Way To Stop China from Stealing Your Profits Every Day Once and For All”

Using this question really digs down deep and finds out what something truly means to your reader.

Now here is the really cool part about using this tactic.

You can use it on anything you see and create content that connects with your reader.

It gives you unheard of powers for writing content.

And I’ll show you how to get that power in my next Breakthrough Bite.

So I’ll see you then.
